Everyone loves to have a beautiful garden, but the sad truth is that it isn’t that easy a task to maintain a garden. You will require a certain extent of dedication and experience in addition to some basic gardening skills. While it is true that our hands are the best tools but sometimes we need some other equipments too in order to maintain a garden and to keep it in top condition.

Garden equipments can generally be divided into four types: hand tools, power tools, watering tools and soil monitoring tools. Each of these tools has its own uses and some are required for planting the plants and helping them grow while others are needed in the later stages of the plant’s lifecycle.

The most common and basic tool that you will need in order to begin gardening is a garden fork and a spade as these are used for loosening up the soil and also for digging. Spades can be used for lifting and flipping over the sand, removing weeds, dirt and stones in addition to loosening the soil. If you have large lumps of soil then use a garden fork to crumble it. If your garden is too large then using a garden fork won’t do and you will need a motorized rotary tiller which comes with rotating blades.

Whether big or small, a lawn mower is a must in every garden and there are many different types to choose from like gas-powered, electricity driven, bagging and so on. Lawn mowers are the best for the overgrown grass in the garden and a recommendation in this regard is to invest in a cordless mower for a small garden, an electrical mower for a large garden and a bagging mower in case of excessive green waste.

If there is a lot of grass and weeds in the area you are needing to clear out then it would be best to use a tiller. A power tiller is able to cut through the roots and turn the soil over rather easily. These come in a variety of sizes and types so make sure you get one that you can operate without getting hurt, is efficient and does not require much attention.

For the garden to look immaculate at all times regular pruning and cutting of its plants is a must and this is facilitated by shears, loppers, weeders and hedge trimmers. While loppers suffice for the twigs and small branches, woody branches are best tackled through secateurs or pruning shears. Many gardeners still wield the weeding knife or hori-hori although the results produced by the motorized blades of hedge trimmers or lawn mowers are accurate and neat.

Don’t you just hate if when leaves fallen off from trees strew your garden? Well there is a solution for this, in fact two solutions namely lawn sweeper and leaf blower. These are motorized equipments which do the job in a very short period of time as opposed to using manual tools to clean up your garden. These two make a good team because the leaf blower would be blowing the grass cuttings and fallen leaves in a certain direction while the lawn sweeper would collect and gather them in one place for easy disposal.

A large garden would also required to be watered every day and a garden hose equipped with a spray gun, water timer and garden sprinkler is perfect for the job. Certain plants require an optimally conditioned soil to grow and for this the gardeners should use thermometers and soil testing kits for testing the pH and NPK levels frequently.
